The pine for artful gowns like the ones at Casa de Novia Bridal Couture (3331 D’Amico St, 713.523.9090) Owner Luvi Wheelock, once a banker, saw the need for a couture shop after her wedding last year. “It’s all about the bride here,” Wheelock notes. “I don’t carry bridesmaid dresses, shoes or anything else than can distract.” The new 2,000-square-foot, gleaming boutique carries everything from elegant chiffon to sophisticated body-conscious slip dresses and haute couture duchess silk creation from designers such as Junko Yoshioka, Elie Saab, and Palazzo Bridal (priced from $2,500 to $14,000).
